Nomi alternativi: Pax Romana: Battle for the Provinces, Pax Romana: Strijd om de Provincieën
Descrizione: Pax Romana: Battle for the Provinces is a narrative expansion for Catan that transforms the familiar island into the Roman Republic and its bordering provinces in the year 201 B.C.
This expansion introduces faction-based gameplay, asymmetric roles, province control, conquest mechanics, and character-driven secret objectives, turning Catan into a game of diplomacy, expansion, and subterfuge.
Key Features:
Faction System: Players are divided into two factions — Romans and Barbarians — with separate starting regions, win conditions, and political agendas. Romans seek territorial expansion; Barbarians aim to infiltrate and destabilize Italy.
Secret Objectives: Each player receives a unique character card with a backstory and a personal mission. Completing this goal grants additional victory points and narrative flavor.
Province Control: The custom game board is divided into distinct provinces. Players can control provinces by building the majority of settlements within them, unlocking province-specific bonuses and extra victory points.
Conquest Mechanics: Players may now conquer villages or cities from opponents, provided they have road access and pay the required military cost. Success depends on a dice roll, adding risk and reward to expansionist strategies.
Event Deck: A deck of 60 event cards drives narrative progression and adds dynamic changes to resource production, faction conflicts, and the political landscape of the Roman world.
Robber as Diplomat: The Robber has a new function — the Diplomat — who doubles resource production instead of blocking it. Players must choose between aggression and influence.
Modified Win Conditions: Beyond the standard 10-point victory, each faction has unique victory triggers — such as occupying specific regions or reaching collective goals.
Pax Romana blends historical intrigue with Catan’s core mechanics, offering a deeper strategic experience through asymmetric objectives, area control, and thematic twists — perfect for players seeking both conquest and cunning.
