Introduction:Felduz (from Proto-Germanic: Felþuz, which means "field") is a card game for two to four players. It is played with a French deck of 40 cards (without 8, 9, or 10) and betting chips.
Definitions:– The field is the complete set of cards owned by each player with which the plays are made.
– The open field is a set of cards from a player's field that are visible to the other players.
– The closed field is a set of cards from a player's field that are hidden from the other players.
– The reserve is a set of N cards that a player discards when they manage to complete their card combination (where N can be zero).
– An event is a category or type of combination that determines how the winner of a round is decided. Events are classified in order of importance: "by points," "by length," and "by rank."
– An amphora is a mandatory initial bet that each player must make before starting a round.
Card values:– The Ace has a value of 1 point.
– The J has a value of 8 points.
– The Q has a value of 9 points.
– The K has a value of 10 points.
– The rest of the cards have a value equal to their own number.
Hierarchy of events:– By points: refers to the lowest possible sum of points in each player's field, with a minimum of 40 points and taking into account the lowest value of the reserve in case of a tie in points. In case of a tie, we use the next event as a tiebreaker.
– By length: refers to the smallest number of cards in the field. In case of a tie, we use the next event as a tiebreaker.
– By rank: refers to the lowest card in the field. In case of a tie, we proceed to compare the next lowest card and so on until breaking the tie.
Distribution:In the first round, a player is randomly designated as the dealer, who will deal five cards to each player, which will be their field. The remaining cards are placed face down in the center of the table to form the deck. In the next round, the player to the left of the current dealer becomes the dealer. At the start of each round, players place three of their five cards face up on the table to form the "open field," and leave the other two in their hand to form the "closed field."
Turns:The player to the left of the dealer starts their turn and performs these actions in the following order:
1. Take a card from the deck and place it in your "closed field," or decide to stand.
2. Optionally bet any number of chips, as long as it is a multiple of the amphora.
3. Choose one of the cards from your "closed field" and place it face up in your "open field".
4. Decide to stand by choosing not to take any more cards from the deck and horizontally placing a number of cards from your "closed field." Reserve cards are not included in the sum because they are part of the discard.
5. Pass your turn to the player on your left.
Betting:Before the cards are dealt, the amphorae are placed. If a player decides to bet, the other players can:
– Accept the bet by saying "I’m in".
– Reject the bet by saying "I’m out" and lose the round.
– Raise the bet by saying "I raise".
When all players have accepted the bet, the chips accumulate in the "pot". The player who wins the round takes all the chips in the pot.
End of the game:When a player runs out of chips to bet, they are eliminated from the game. The game ends when only one player remains who has not been eliminated, who is the winner.
